Theatre Etiquette Guidelines

  • No babes in arms will be permitted at a performance.  This does not mean you have to buy them a ticket.  It means no babes in arms are allowed in the auditorium during a performance.  We strongly recommend no children under the age of 5.

  • Late seating is very difficult and disruptive to the play that’s going on, not only for the rest of the audience, but also for the people who are acting on the stage. We ask patrons to arrive at least 15 minutes prior to curtain time to allow for enough time to pick up your tickets, visit the facilities, and get settled comfortably in your seats. We reserve the right to seat patrons, or to not seat them, based on what is least disruptive to the play.

  • The Gratiot County Players offer a diverse selection of plays. Not all productions may appeal to or be appropriate for every person or for all ages. Therefore, patrons are responsible for making informed decisions regarding all their ticket purchases.

  • Take care of personal needs (drinks of water or restrooms) beforehand. You should not leave your seat until the intermission or until the performance ends.

  • Please silence or turn off all electronic devices, including cell phones, beepers, and watch alarms. You'll be embarrassed if it goes off in the middle of a tense moment of the show and it will break the mood for those around you.

  • Most shows do not allow photography of any kind. Flash photography inside the theatre is never allowed as it is a distraction to those around you and a danger to the performers.

  • Dear lovebirds, when you lean your heads togethers it blocks the view of the people behind you. Please consider the people that will be seated behind you when choosing whether to wear a hat or what hairstyle you have.

  • Please refrain from talking, humming, or singing along with the show, except when encouraged to do so by the artist or show.

  • Please wait for an appropriate moment to dig something out of your pocket or bag.

  • Go easy with the perfume or cologne, many people are highly allergic.

  • If you must consume your concessions during the show, please do so quietly as to not disturb those around you.

  • Be courteous and everyone will enjoy the show.

Children and Live Theatre

Here are some general guidelines that should be mentioned prior to attending a live performance to prepare your child to present the proper behavior:

  • They will be expected to remain quiet, sit still in their own chair, and not disturb others around them by talking or fidgeting.

  • They will need to keep their feet on the floor, not on the seats around them, and refrain from kicking the chair in front of them or standing during the performance.

  • They should not leave the theatre except during intermission and only with a parent or guardian.

  • They should use the restroom before the performance or during intermission and only with a parent or guardian.

  • They may applaud when appropriate.

Also mention to your children that the theatre will be dark at times and sudden bursts of sounds may happen.
