Community Technical Workshops
This is your chance to enter into the creative world of technical theater. WORKSHOP INFORMATION COMING SOON.
Gratiot County Players presents opportunities for interested members of the community to learn about the following aspects of technical theater:
Sound and Audio management. Learn what it takes to make a musical or play sound professional, managing sound queues and managing sound equipment. You will also learn about how to manage channel equalizer settings, mixing for live performances and audio system set up. Workshops will be scheduled this fall. Watch for information on our social media accounts and this page soon.
Lighting deisgn. Using up to date LED lighting and lighting control software, you can learn how to light a stage, focusing and using lighting fixtures to enhance the live talent performance and create effects. Additionally, you can learn the technical attributes of creating lighting universes. Workshops will be scheduled this fall. Watch for information on our social media accounts and this page soon.
Set Design. Learn how to construct and create safe environments for the actors to play while also setting the scenes for thrilling an audience.
Costuming. Learn how to set up, design and dress our talent for the variety of shows we produce.
Workshop Schedule
Our very first technical workshop is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd, 2026 at the Strand Theater. Details are:
Introduction to theater audio production - 10am - Noon
In this 2 hour session, you will learn the basics of theater audio, managing microphones, what to listen for while mixing for a show. You will also learn the specifics of the Strands audio set up and how to operate a show.
Introduction to theater lighting design and programming - 2pm - 4pm
In this 2 hour session, you will learn the basics of theater lighting with LED fixtures, techniques of aiming, focusing and achieving a desired scene. Additionally, you will learn the specifics about the Strand’s LED set up, the ETCNomad dmx controller & how to program scenes in the dmx software used.
